President of the Italian National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN) since July 2019, Antonio Zoccoli is professor of physics at the University of Bologna. He carries out experimental research in the field of fundamental,nuclear and subnuclear physics and has been a member of several international collaborations, at Rutherford Lab in UK, at CERN in Switzerland and at the DESY laboratory in Hamburg (Germany). Since 2005 he is a member of the ATLAS collaboration at CERN, which, together with the CMS collaboration, announced the first observation of the Higgs boson in July 2012.
Since June 2021 he is President of CONPER (Council of the Presidents of Italian Public Research Institutes).
Since July 2022 he is President of Foundation “Italian Research Center on High-Performance Computing, Big Data and Quantum Computin”.
