BSBF 2024: A Strategic Investment in Big Science and Human Capital Development

The third edition of BSBF in Trieste will boost Europe’s €10 billion Big Science market and attract the next generation of talent.

The Big Science Business Forum 2024 (BSBF), scheduled from October 1 to 4 in Trieste, is set to bring together 1.000 delegates from across Europe to connect high-tech industries with the Big Science sector, 150 speakers, 163 stands, 245 exhibitors, and representation from 30 countries across 14 national pavilions. The event is organized into 30 sessions: 8 Satellite Meetings, 6 Plenary Sessions, and 16 Parallel Sessions, offering participants the chance to explore the growing €10 billion Big Science market.

One of the most significant contributions to the forum comes from the Autonomous Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, which has invested €550.000 to support the event, including €400.000 dedicated to promotional activities from 2022 to 2024. The two-year preparation for BSBF 2024 involved an extensive roadmap to engage European stakeholders, including 8 roadshow stops in collaboration with the Central European Initiative (INCE), 4 visits to leading Big Science Organizations (BSOs), 11 international scientific conferences, and 6 national and international events.

Another standout aspect of BSBF 2024 is its focus on fostering career opportunities for young talent. Over 1700 young students and researchers from across Europe have registered for the Career Opportunities Session. Importantly, the final day of the forum, October 4, offers free admission to those under 40, providing them a unique opportunity to engage with industry leaders and explore the latest advancements in high-tech and innovation.

A key feature of the forum is the hundreds of B2B meetings, pre-booked through the My Profile platform, which will facilitate direct networking between companies and Big Science organizations. Additionally, there will be 4 site visits to key research infrastructures, including:

  • Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste – KYMA
  • Jožef Stefan Institute in Ljubljana
  • OGS (National Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics) and Grotta Gigante
  • OGS with Research Vessel Laura Bassi
