BSBF visits Zagreb

Encouraging Companies and Stakeholders to Attend the October Event

The Croatian leg of the Big Science Business Forum (BSBF) promotional roadshow took place at the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Zagreb. The event was jointly organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Central European Initiative (CEI), the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region and the BSBF 2024 Organising Committee.

The main objective of the event was to encourage the participation of companies, operators and other stakeholders in the BSBF 2024, which will be held in Trieste from 1 to 4 October.

The event was introduced by Alessandro Lombardo, Central European Initiative (CEI) and it was opened by Ketty Segatti, Central Director of Employment, Training, Education and Family of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia and H.E. Paolo Trichilo, Ambassador of Italy to Croatia.

Paolo Acunzo, Director of the BSBF Trieste 2024, was given the task of presenting the event in its details in the dedicated keynote. Keynote speaker was followed by a panel discussion entitled “Big Science Opportunities for Local Businesses and Stakeholders”, which was moderated by Tena Žganec, member of the Executive Board of the Croatian Office for Creativity and Innovation (HUKI). 

The discussion included contributions from  Hrvoje Meštrić, Director-General for Science and Technology at the Ministry of Science, Education and Youth,  Vedran Bilas, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb and David Matthew Smith, Director General of Ruđer Bošković Institute

The panel discussion on the state of scientific research in Croatia revealed several significant points: the Ministry of Science expressed its intention to enhance Croatia’s participation in CERN and ESA, the University of Zagreb highlighted the need for strong policies to incentivize R&D in the country, and the Director of Ruđer Bošković Institute called for greater integration among national and international research centers.
