Head of Industrial, Procurement and Knowledge Transfer
CERN
Since 2021, Christopher Hartley is the Head of the Industry, Procurement and Knowledge Transfer Department at CERN. The department procures all items and services needed by CERN in close cooperation with technical colleagues. It also shares the knowledge and technologies developed by CERN for societal benefits and interfaces directly with the EU. He oversees delivery of these services to internal customers, with an emphasis on evolution of the services to face current and future challenges and opportunities, in collaboration with stakeholders in industry and representatives of the Member States. Prior to joining CERN, he spent many years in a variety of managerial roles in earth observation satellite projects, most notably at the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT). His roles there included large scale ground segment procurements and close collaboration on satellite procurements with ESA. Chris studied computer science, and began his career in onboard aircraft systems, prior to moving into satellite systems in industrial roles supporting ESA and systems development for the Argentine Space Agency.
