President of Area Science Park since February 2021, Caterina Petrillo is full professor of Condensed Matter Physics at the University of Perugia where she also led the Department of Physics and the Department of Physics and Earth Science from 2009 to 2017. Her research activity in condensed matter physics has largely benefitted of neutron and X-ray scattering techniques available at the European large-scale facilities (ILL, ISIS-RAL, ESRF, ESS), where she also contributed to the design and construction of neutron instrumentation as a member of several international collaborations. She has been a member of scientific evaluation committees, European advisory bodies and the governing bodies of international research facilities (ESRF-SAC, ESFRI-PSE, ESFRI-NLG, H2020-RI Advisory Group, Helmholtz Association, Research Foundation Flanders FWO, EOSC-WG Training & Skills, ILL Steering Committee, ESS Council, ELI-ERIC General Assembly). She has also served as the Italian Delegate to the Research Infrastructure Programme Committee of the EC during FP7 and a component of the Italian ESFRI delegation. Since 2021 she is the Chair of the General Assembly of ELI-ERIC.
