Andreas Krämer studied physics at the University in Frankfurt/Main (Germany), where he obtained his PhD in 2000. The work was carried out in the atomic physics department at GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research, Darmstadt (Germany). After a year as research fellow at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in the USA, he joined the Vacuum Systems department, at GSI Darmstadt in 2001. Since October 2012 he is head of the department.
