Xavier Barcons is Director General of ESO (European Southern Observatory) since September 2017. He holds a Bachelor and PhD in Physics and is on special leave from a CSIC Research Professorship (Spain). His professional career combines scientific research in astronomy, participation in the development and exploitation of space science missions as well as international science policy.
